Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabrescens)

Looking to add mesmerizing, hypnotic movement to your reef? The Torch Coral is the ultimate LPS centerpiece and an absolute must-have for coral collectors.

Named for its long, flowing, fleshy tentacles tipped with brightly coloured, glowing balls, this coral truly looks like a blazing torch catching the current. Whether you are hunting for a classic neon green, a vibrant Aussie Gold, or a high-end Dragon Tamer morph, Torches are guaranteed to steal the show under blue actinic lighting. As the tentacles extend and sway gracefully in the water, they bring an incredible sense of life and dynamic motion to your aquascape.

At UKReef Hampshire, we love Torch Corals because they offer premium, high-end aesthetics and are incredibly rewarding to grow into massive, multi-headed colonies!

Quick Care Guide:

Care Level: Moderate. They require stable water parameters (Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium) to build their branching skeletons.

Temperament: Aggressive. ⚠️ Important: Torches have a very potent sting and long "sweeper tentacles" that can extend well beyond their normal size, especially at night. You must give them plenty of their own space so they don't sting and kill neighboring corals! (Note: They generally tolerate being placed next to other Euphyllia glabrescens torches).

Placement: Middle to Bottom. Secure them firmly into the rockwork where they have ample room to stretch out their tentacles in all directions.

Lighting: Moderate. They do best under medium light. If the lighting is too intense, they may keep their tentacles retracted.

Water Flow: Moderate (Indirect). This is crucial! They need enough flow to make their tentacles dance and sway, but never blast them with heavy, direct flow. A harsh current can tear their delicate fleshy tissue against their sharp skeleton, leading to bacterial infections like Brown Jelly Disease.

Feeding: Fully photosynthetic. They will get most of their energy from your reef lights. However, they are enthusiastic eaters! Target feeding them 1-2 times a week with meaty foods like Mysis shrimp, Calanus, or high-quality LPS pellets will drastically increase their growth rate and head-splitting.
