Neon Green Plating Montipora (Montipora capricornis)
Looking to add dramatic, architectural structure to your reef? The Plating Montipora is one of the most iconic and rewarding Small Polyp Stony (SPS) corals in the hobby, famous for growing in stunning, swirling, overlapping scrolls and shelves.
This specific "Neon Green" morph is an absolute standout. Its smooth surface is packed with tiny, densely clustered polyps that glow with a radioactive, highlighter-green intensity under blue actinic lighting. As it grows and plates outwards, it creates incredible natural shelves and overhangs, instantly bringing a highly mature, three-dimensional look to your aquascape.

Quick Care Guide:
Care Level: Moderate. It is widely considered one of the easiest and most forgiving SPS corals, but it still absolutely requires a stable, mature aquarium with consistent Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium to support its rapid skeletal growth.
Temperament: Peaceful. It lacks stinging sweeper tentacles entirely. However, because it grows outwards so quickly, you must plan ahead—it will easily shade out and starve any light-demanding corals placed directly beneath its plates.
Placement: Middle to High. Secure the frag firmly to your exposed rockwork using reef putty or glue. Ensure it is placed somewhere with plenty of horizontal space for it to scroll and plate outwards without hitting the glass.
Lighting: Moderate to High. To maintain that blinding neon-green colour and promote tight, swirling growth patterns, it needs strong lighting. If placed in a shaded area, it will quickly brown out and stall its growth.
Water Flow: Moderate to High. This is crucial for its health. Because it grows in flat shelves, it is highly prone to catching falling sand and detritus. A strong, broad, and indirect flow will keep the plates swept clean and prevent patches of tissue necrosis.
Feeding: Not Required. It is heavily photosynthetic and will thrive on proper lighting and stable water chemistry. However, broadcasting liquid amino acids or micro-plankton powders into the water column will promote even faster growth and better polyp extension.
