​St. Thomas Mushroom (Rhodactis osculifera)

​Looking for a truly unique piece of texture to add to your coral garden? The St. Thomas Mushroom is a spectacular, highly sought-after Caribbean corallimorph that instantly draws the eye.

​Unlike standard flat mushroom corals, the St. Thomas is famous for its incredible, 3D texture. Its surface is completely covered in large, spherical, bubble-like vesicles that inflate during the day, giving it a fascinating, almost alien appearance. Available in a stunning array of colours—from neon greens and icy blues to fiery reds and oranges—these bubbles catch the flow and glow magnificently under blue actinic lighting.

​Quick Care Guide:

​Care Level: Very Easy. Fantastic for beginners and highly forgiving of minor water parameter fluctuations.

​Temperament: Semi-aggressive. While they are peaceful soft corals, they will slowly expand their footprint and can irritate neighboring corals. Give them their own little patch of rockwork or a dedicated spot on the sandbed.

​Placement: Bottom to Middle. They are very happy resting on a piece of rubble on the sandbed or tucked securely into lower rock crevices.

​Lighting: Low to Moderate. ⚠️ Important: They do not like being blasted with high-intensity light. If the lighting is too strong, their bubbles will shrink, and they may bleach or try to detach to find a shadier spot.

​Water Flow: Low to Gentle. They need just enough flow to keep detritus from settling between their bubbles. If the current is too harsh, it will tear their delicate foot off the frag plug.

​Feeding: Fully photosynthetic. They will thrive simply by soaking up your reef lights. However, if you want to see them grow massive and split quickly, turn off your flow once a week and gently target-feed them small meaty foods like Mysis shrimp or LPS pellets!
